The Process of Acknowledging
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
This week I'd like to share the second verb of my benediction, which is "acknowledge." To acknowledge is a more intellectual process than the other verbs of the benediction. It is a statement of receiving and agreeing that a fact or a belief is accurate. When I acknowledge my affirmations and prayers, I admit to and concede the truth of what I have spoken from a mental standpoint.
Affirmation: I now recognize that spiritual peace, prosperity, perfect dynamic he…
The Act of Allowing
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
I am frequently asked about the closing statement to my meditations. When I write my prayers and affirmations, I always end them with the benediction: "I now allow, acknowledge, accept and affirm that these things are so."
This week I will focus on the first verb of this phrase, "allow." To allow means that I give permission to the ideas that I have spoken to enter my conscious mind. I let or give space to the ideas in my heart and soul. When I grant a thought …
Affirmations for Release During Lent
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
During the Lent of our childhoods, many of us were encouraged to give up something that we loved as a demonstration of self denial that would please God: chocolates, ice cream, red meats on Fridays. (The last example of releasing still makes wonderful excuses for "fish fries." Yum!)
In ou…
A Love Letter
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
In spite of scattered thoughts, a lack of concentration, and many demands on my time and focus, I know that you truly love me, more than I, in my human condition, can understand. When I take just a few moments to allow your demonstrations of Love to fill my heart, I have indescribable feelings of fullness and joy. My whole body vibrates with energy and my chest feels near to bursting with light. My mouth smiles, my brain clears, and my spine t…

The Clash of Spirit and Human Fear
by Rev. Vickie Spray
As a spiritual counselor, I have been a witness to the fear in humans that keeps us in the frustrating cycle of, “I can’t because…” And of course, not only have I been a witness to that fear in others and continue to be a witness, I have also been an active participant of that fear in my own life. It’s painful.
We, as humans, have this huge spirt inside of us that urges us to take our light out from under a bushel and we have a hardwired safety mechanism throughout o…
Breathing Peace
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
Just breathe. Simply thinking these two words causes me to stop what I'm doing and refocus. If the day is not going the way I had planned, if my interaction with a friend or colleague is causing stress, if I am experiencing overload at work or at home, I pause and just breathe.
With each brea…
Practicing Principled Love
by Rev. Jayne Jarvis
As I grew, gradually it dawned on me that Love was the key. Love for life, myself and my fellowman. Not always easy tasks! My concept refined as I matured and realized what was required of me. I learned that reformative Love is not always a walk in the park or loving those who love you. But rather it requi…
I Open Myself
by Rev. Rita Scheibeck
As I gently open myself to Spirit, I allow myself to receive the wisdom and understanding of my Divine Soul in all its many forms; I need only take a moment to receive.
As I open myself to Universal Love, I know beyond doubt that I am capable of a pure and deep love for myself and for others. When anger or frustration block my unconditional love, I gen…
Learning and Sharing
by Rev. Jayne Jarvis
Back in 1989 while driving my son to his first year of college in Greensboro NC we stopped at a fast food place to pick up breakfast. He went into the store while I waited in the car.
Parked next to me was a vehicle full of chattering young men eating in their vehicle. As they ate, they threw out their refuse on the ground between our vehicles. It greatly annoyed me. I could feel the self-right…
